GCSE DANCE at DANCECONNECT

Danceconnect runs a GCSE Performing Arts:Dance course on Thursday's during term time as a twilight session. This is a two year course, and is taught by director Claire-Louise West who is a GCSE Dance examiner and has been teaching GCSE dance for several years.
The classes run from 4:45pm-6:45pm weekly on Thursday's in the Dance Studio at Buckingham Primary School.The course outline is detailed below.

Entry Requirements
Students should be in Year 10 at school. Some dance experience is required.

Duration
Two hours tuition to be delivered in a twilight session after school on Thursday’s from
4:45 pm - 6:45pm during term time. The course spans over 5 terms. N.B Some terms are longer than others. Danceconnect charges a flat fee for each term, regardless of duration.

Content
This course focuses on the aesthetic and artistic qualities of dance and the use of dance movement as a medium of expression and communication in the performance, creation and appreciation of dance.

Modes of Assessment
Practical and written examinations will be held between April and June of the second year.

GCSE dance students working in the studio

GCSE Dance Specification

Written Paper 20% of the total marks
2 hours
Short and extended answer questions


Set Study 20% of the total marks
Practical Examination
Performance of a professionally choreographed dance of approximately one minute.


Performance & Choreography 60% of the total marks
GCSE Coursework
This is broken down into the following:

Performance of Duo/Group Dance 20%
Choreography 30%
Expanded Programme Notes 10%



Course Fees

Tuition fees are published annually each September and should be paid prior to the beginning of each term or each academic year. The Examination Board (AQA) charges a fee for the examination (see below for details).The course can be paid in termly installments or in full.

Tuition Fees for the academic year 2007 -2008 are £125 per term per student.

Additional Expenses

The GCSE course fee does not include the following additional
expenses:
External Awarding Body Examination Fee
For guideline purposes, the fee for GCSE Performing Arts: Dance in 2007 was
£23.30. A similar fee will be required for your child to sit the examination in 2009.

Trips/workshops
From time to time during the course there may be workshops and trips arranged for the students, which would require an extra fee. You will be notified about these in advance.
